The Government of British Columbia has announced a $900,000 investment to support the expansion of Niik Steel, a structural steel fabricator based in Nanaimo, B.C., as part of its Manufacturing Jobs Fund. The funding will help the company triple its steel fabrication capacity, create 26 jobs, and support a total capital investment of $5 million. The expansion includes construction of a new facility of up to 750 sq.
m and upgrades to the existing plant to streamline production. The investment will also enable the company to purchase advanced automated equipment to reduce bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and take on larger, more complex projects. "Our steel sector is facing real challenges from tariffs and market volatility, and it’s never been more important to support our homegrown businesses," said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth.
"That’s why our government continues to make investments that help companies grow, modernize and pursue new opportunities." The expansion is expected to strengthen the province’s steel manufacturing sector by increasing in-province production for infrastructure projects and improving supply chain resilience. "Niik Steel’s investment in advanced fabrication capacity will create high-skill jobs in the region and shorten supply chains for British Columbia infrastructure projects," said Amir Jamshidi, president, Niik Steel. "Support from the Manufacturing Jobs Fund accelerates our expansion and anchors critical steel fabrication in the province, supporting resilient, low-carbon construction and long-term growth in B.C.’s manufacturing sector and responsive supply chain." The project is part of the province’s broader Manufacturing Jobs Fund, which supports industrial projects across British Columbia to drive economic growth, modernization, and job creation.
