Brantford Bulldogs make four trades, restock draft cupboard

Article content The Brantford Bulldogs said goodbye to three fan favourites and an up-and-coming talent on Tuesday as the Ontario Hockey League’s trade window opened up. Needing to restock a depleted draft cupboard, the Bulldogs traded goaltenders Ryerson Leenders and David Egorov, forward Parker Holmes and defenceman Gavin Christie. In return, the Bulldogs got a total of 12 draft picks as well as defencemen Jet Kwajah and George Komadoski and forward Jack Good.

The Bulldogs sent four draft picks the other way in the trades. Leenders, who will re-enter the NHL draft after he was not signed by the Buffalo Sabres, is heading to the Owen Sound Attack for a a 2027 second-round pick (Sault Ste. Marie), 2027 fourth-round pick (Oshawa) and 2026 fifth-round pick (Owen Sound), as well as Kwajah.

The second and fourth round picks are conditional, as is a 2028 15th round selection Brantford sent to Owen Sound. The only condition is that Leenders plays one game for the Attack. “On behalf of the entire Bulldogs organization, I want to thank Ryerson Leenders for everything he has given to our team over the last two seasons,” Bulldogs general manager Spencer Hyman said in a release.

“Ryerson is a tremendous competitor and person. While we are sad to see him go, we are incredibly grateful for everything he contributed to our team and community. We wish Ryerson nothing but success as he begins this next chapter in Owen Sound.” Kwajah is an 18-year-old native of Etobicoke.

The six-foot, 170-pound rearguard played 96 games over the past two seasons with the United States Hockey League’s Madison Capitols, scoring 13 goals and adding 30 assists. He is a Penn State University commit for 2027-28. “We are thrilled to welcome Jet Kwajah to the Bulldogs organization,” Hyman said.

“We believe Jet has the ability to be one of the premier offensive defencemen in the OHL immediately. He is an elite skater, an exceptional puck mover and possesses a high-end shot that makes him a threat every time he touches the puck. “What separates Jet is his offensive instincts and hockey sense, but he also has the ability to defend and impact the game in all three zones.

Beyond his talent, he is a first-class person and one of the highest-character young men you will meet.” Egorov will be heading to the Erie Otters, along with a 13th round pick in 2028. Coming back to Brantford will be four draft picks – a 2027 third-rounder (North Bay), 2027 third-rounder (Saginaw), 2026 fourth-rounder (Sarnia) and 2029 fifth-rounder (Erie) – along with Good. “We want to sincerely thank David Egorov for everything he brought to the Bulldogs organization,” Hyman said.

“From the moment he arrived, David embraced our team, our community and everything it means to be a Bulldog. He is an outstanding teammate, a fierce competitor and an even better person. His positive attitude, character and dedication made our organization better every day.

“We are grateful for the role he played in our team’s success and proud to have had him wear the Bulldogs crest. We wish David and his family all the best in Erie and look forward to following his continued success both on and off the ice.” Good is an Ajax native who most recently played with the British Columbia Hockey League’s Brooks Bandits, scoring 22 goals and adding league-high 48 assists in 54 games. He helped Brooks win back-to-back BCHL championships.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Jack Good to the Bulldogs organization,” Hyman said. “He is a talented player who will contribute immediately and help support the development of our younger players.” The Sarnia Sting acquired Holmes, a 2025 fourth-round NHL pick of the Chicago Blackhawks. The Bulldogs get a 2028 third-round pick (Sarnia) and 2028 sixth-round pick (Oshawa) in the trade.

“We would like to thank Parker Holmes for everything he contributed to the Bulldogs organization,” said Hyman. “Parker represented our team with professionalism, character and a team-first attitude throughout his time in Brantford. He was a valued member of our locker room and someone our staff enjoyed working with every day.

“We wish Parker nothing but success as he begins this next chapter in Sarnia and (we) thank him for his contributions to our program.” Defenceman Gavin Christie is off to the Kingston Frontenacs. Brantford receives a 2029 second-round pick (Niagara) and 2026 fifth-round pick (Windsor). Christie was selected in the third round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

He played 38 games for the Greater Ontario Hockey League’s Brantford Titans this past season, scoring seven goals and adding 20 assists. “We would like to thank Gavin Christie for his time with the Bulldogs organization and wish him nothing but success moving forward,” Hyman said. “While Gavin was only with us for a short period, he conducted himself with professionalism, character and a team-first attitude every day.

“This trade presents a tremendous opportunity for Gavin to earn valuable ice time and continue his development in Kingston.” On Wednesday, the Bulldogs continued to retool their lineup, acquiring Komadoski from the Flint Firebirds for a 2027 third-rounder (Saginaw). Komadoski a six-foot-four, 210-pound St. Louis native played 50 games for Flint last season, recording three assists. The 17-year-old is a Notre Dame commit.

“George Komadoski is a big, heavy right-shot defenceman who brings toughness, competitiveness and a physical edge every time he steps on the ice,” said Hyman. “He plays the game with jam, embraces hard hockey and has the willingness to impose his will on opponents. George defends with purpose, competes in te difficult areas and has all the traits you look for in a player who can make life miserable for the opposition.” Brantford also swapped 15th rounders with Sudbury – the Bulldogs get a 2026 15th rounder while Sudbury receives a 2027 15th rounder.

It’s expected that the Bulldogs may announce one more trade in the next 24 hours. It’s been a busy off-season for the Bulldogs as they look to reload after taking a run at an OHL championship last season. Along with the trades announced on Tuesday, Brantford has brought in forwards Xavier Lieb, Nathan Hauad, Jason Musa, Owen DeGraff and Jack Good along with defencemen Noah Lapointe and Abe Barnett.

Those players were United States Hockey League and British Columbia Hockey League free agents.
