Cowichan sports shorts: rugby, hockey, biking Published 5:00 pm Sunday, June 7, 2026 BC Bears women Cowichan Rugby Club’s Macy Wiebe represented the B.C. senior women’s Blue roster for the Western Canada Cup Championship against the Rugby Alberta Wolfpack. “It’s an incredible honour to be selected for the BC Blue squad and to have the opportunity to compete alongside some of the best female rugby players in Canada, guided by such dedicated and talented coaches,” Wiebe said of her selection. Cowichan Rugby Club’s Tyson Beukeboom is serving as an assistant coach for BC Blue. “A huge thank you to the Cowichan Piggies for all the support throughout my rugby journey and for truly being my home away from home.” The first of the three-game series took place at Shawnigan Lake School on May 23 between BC Blue and BC Gold. BC Gold took the 35-20 victory. Games two and three were played May 29 and 31 at Abbotsford Rotary Stadium, where Alberta faced BC Gold and BC Blue, respectively. BC Gold cruised to a 39–5 victory, while BC Blue followed with a 43–3 win over the Wolfpack. Wiebe is current in her fifth year at the University of Victoria, studying sociology while playing with the UVic Vikes women’s rugby program. Vegas Golden Knights Duncan defenceman Dylan Coghlan and the Vegas Golden Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup finals. Against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals in Las Vegas on May 26, Golden Knights forward Cole Smith redirected the Duncan-born Coghlan’s shot from the point, giving the Golden Knights their second goal of the game — the eventual game-winner. Vegas is playing the Carolina Hurricanes for the Stanley Cup. Jackson at Nove Meseto Maple Bay mountain biker Jennifer Jackson placed 11th in the elite women’s cross-country Olympic (XCO) race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Series stop in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic, May 21-24. It was her top result of the weekend with a 13th place finish in the cross country short-track (XCC) event as well. Jackson sits sixth in the world in the XCO and 15th in the XCC.
