An RCMP officer in British Columbia has been charged with driving without due care and attention following a crash that injured a man last year in the province’s Interior. The provincial prosecution service announced the charge Wednesday against Const. Rachel Mandel of the Revelstoke RCMP.
The charge was sworn earlier that day in a Salmon Arm courtroom, the agency said. Prosecutors allege that Mandel was driving a police vehicle near the community of Sicamous on June 15, 2025, when her vehicle collided with a motorcycle on the Trans-Canada Highway. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C.
investigated the crash, which left the motorcyclist with unspecified injuries. The police watchdog investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death in B.C., whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing by police. The B.C.
Prosecution Service says the charge was approved by an experienced Crown prosecutor who has no connection with the accused officer. “As these matters are now before the court, the BCPS will not be releasing any additional information or commenting further at this time,” the agency said. Mandel is scheduled to make her first court appearance on July 21.
