Here’s everything you need to know ahead of your visit. Hunters Bay Trail Hunters Bay Trail is part of the vast trail network known as The Great Trail, the world’s longest recreational multi-use trail system, according to Discover Muskoka. The Great Trail stretches from Newfoundland, into British Columbia, and to the northern stretches of Yukon and the Northwest Territories, connecting 13 provinces and territories and more than 24,000 kilometres of trails.
The hike on this particular section of the trail, which is considered easy to moderate in difficulty, begins at the Centre Street bridge just steps away from downtown Huntsville, and is ideal for walking, running, cycling, and even swimming on a hot summer day. It winds along the Muskoka River, under the railway trestle, and through Avery Beach Park, where guests can enjoy fishing along the way. If the 3.6-kilometre hike is too long, you can choose to do an “ol’ two car trick” where you drop one car off at the end of the trail so you can drive back instead of completing the double trek.
The floating boardwalk, which was originally just 137 metres long, now stretches more than 500 metres and is a must-see part of this “one-of-a-kind” trail.
