A police response to reports of a firearm aboard a REM train temporarily disrupted service Saturday evening after the weapon was found to be a replica. Montreal Police (SPVM) said officers were dispatched shortly after 7:30 p.m. following several 911 calls from passengers who believed they had seen a firearm on the train. Officers intercepted the train at Ville-de-Mont-Royal Station, where they located a 19-year-old man carrying what was later identified as an airsoft gun.

Police determined no criminal offence had occurred, and no charges were laid. The man was released after officers educated him about the risks of carrying a replica firearm in public, where it can easily be mistaken for a real weapon. No injuries were reported.
