BCWS firefighters are responding to both incidents

2 wildfires north of Anahim Lake currently out-of-control Published 3:10 pm Friday, July 17, 2026 Two wildfires were discovered northeast of Lessard Lake, 347 kilometres west of Williams Lake and 31 kilometres from Anahim Lake, on Friday, July 17. The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports one blaze at 30 hectares while the other is 40 hectares, both located roughly five kilometres northeast of Lessard Lake.

The agency said BCWS firefighters are responding to both incidents, with the support of aircraft. BCWS said both blazes are currently out of control, with no restrictions near the incident at the moment. The agency added that the suspected cause for both reported fires is lightning.

Earlier today, Environment Canada issued a thunderstorm warning for the Cariboo-Chilcotin region. The weather agency said heavy downpours around Anahim Lake were to be expected during the afternoon and evening.
