A crackdown on unsafe driving habits is coming in Okotoks

RCMP and municipal enforcement officers plan to target speeding, distracted driving and other infractions that most often cause serious collisions.

Law enforcement in Okotoks will be cracking down on unsafe driving this summer. Okotoks RCMP and Okotoks Municipal Enforcement will work together on a series of initiatives to improve road safety and reduce serious collisions, police said in a notice on July 16. The first campaign will focus on speeding after it was identified as a top safety concern through public engagement.

Enforcement campaigns will focus on high-risk driving behaviours that most often contribute to serious collisions and concerns from the public, police said. Other campaigns could include distracted driving, impaired driving, intersection violations and commercial vehicle safety. Law enforcement will communicate with residents before the start of each campaign to raise awareness, encourage compliance and promote safe behaviours.

Okotoks RCMP said it is committed to improving road safety and keeping the Okotoks community safe through intelligence-led enforcement, education and community engagement. A start date for the first campaign was not announced.
