Amber Alert issued for 6-year-old child from Alberta, possibly in Okanagan Published 2:05 pm Friday, July 17, 2026 Six-year-old Lanakai Morrison, who was reportedly taken by his mother, Krista Morrison and her partner Daniel Ludwig, remains missing, and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to seek assistance in locating the child. Also missing is four-year-old Karl Morrison, Ludwig’s son. The children are suspected of being with Krista and Ludwig.

Police believe they were in the Okanagan Valley near Vernon, possibly travelling east towards the Kootenays. However, “they are very mobile and could be in Northern B.C., the Yukon or Alberta,” said RCMP. “They were last believed to be driving in a 2006 Red Ford F350 that has a lift and larger tires or may be driving a motorhome,” read an RCMP release on July 17.

The original Amber Alert for Lanakai was issued on July 7. Beaverlodge RCMP confirmed a sighting of Lanakai in Fort St. John on Wednesday, July 8, at approximately 9:30 a.m. However, the Amber Alert for Lanakai was cancelled in Alberta and British Columbia on July 10, and a day later also cancelled in the Northwest Territories.

Alberta RCMP said their alert was cancelled as “there’s no reasonable expectation the public, in Alberta, will be able to action the instructions in the alert.” They did not provide further details. Lanakai Morrison is described as: - Six years old - Slight build - Long, light brown hair - Brown eyes Karl Morrison is described as a four-year-old with blonde hair.

Krista Morrison and Daniel Ludwig are both wanted by police for abduction in contravention of a custody/parenting order. 35-year-old Krista Morrison is described as: - 5 feet 8 inches tall - Medium build - Long dark brown hair - Brown eyes 35-year-old Daniel Ludwig is described as: - 5 feet 11 inches tall - Large build - Brown hair and brown eyes Please contact the Beaverlodge RCMP at 780-354-2955 or your local police detachment, if you have any information on their whereabouts.
