A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by Environment Canada (EC) for the Arrow Lakes and Slocan Lake regions of the West Kootenay this morning.

Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake region under severe thunderstorm warning by Environment Canada Severe storm warning A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by Environment Canada (EC) for the Arrow Lakes and Slocan Lake regions of the West Kootenay this morning. At 11:26 a.m., Environment Canada stated that meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to quarter size hail and heavy rain. “A severe thunderstorm just east of Fauquier and near Highway 6 is moving northeastward at a speed of 50 kilometres per hour,” it stated.

“Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail.” Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain, said the warning from EC.
