Trisha Matabalan, Philippine Canadian Inquirer July 10, 2026 CANADA – Macklin Celebrini, hailing from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is a professional ice hockey player for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. He plays center and alternate caption and was selected first overall in the 2024 NHL (National Hockey League) entry draft. Due to having proved his skill on the ice and his passion for the game numerous times, he bagged the INHF (International Hockey Federation)

Male Player of the Year title. By his debut, he was already a contender for the Calder Memorial Trophy, which is an annual award given to “a player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHL.” The list of his accomplishments don’t stop there.

Even as a teenager, he held and broke numerous records, leaving sports fans wondering what his next move might be. Just this year, on his 2026 Winter Olympic debut at Milano Cortina, Celebrini was put on the roster and declared as the youngest member of the Canada men’s hockey team. There, he led with five goals and was named an all-star.
