Wednesday July 15, 2026 | CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI [Reporting from VICTORIA, BC = Posted 3:37 pm PT] by Mary P Brooke | Island Social Trends The 2026 Summer Meeting of Canada’s Premiers will be held in Charlottetown from July 21 to 23. As Chair of the Council of the Federation (COF), Prince Edward Island (PEI) Premier Rob Lantz will host the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by the Premiers of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories. Whereas in past years the top issues have been heath care and housing, currently the most urgent national issues seem to be focussed on maintaining and expanding Canada’s economy. Given the current strain on the economy and sovereignty from a range of inputs (US administration, tariffs, trade diversification, expansion of national defence, launching major projects, and keeping an eye on threats of separation), premiers may well be happy to keep what they have and not press the federal government for more this year.
