Canadian national team selection Sam Adekugbe married at Vancouver City Hall

Canadian Men’s National Team selection Sam Adekugbe was married in a micro-wedding ceremony at Vancouver City Hall this week.

Vancouver Whitecap and Canadian Men’s National Team selection Sam Adekugbe was married in a micro-wedding ceremony at Vancouver City Hall this week. A social media post from the city showed Adekugbe and his wife ringing in their marriage in the council chamber. Since May of 2020, the city has offered 30-minute micro-weddings for those desiring a smaller ceremony, with a maximum of 30 attendees.

The city’s website explains that some micro-weddings are done as quickly as 15 minutes. Adekugbe has been in the public eye as of late, working as a TSN panellist during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Spectators caught the left-back breaking down plays on TV, as well as in person at Jack Poole Plaza.

Adekugbe has been off the pitch since June 2025 while recovering from an Achilles tendon tear he suffered during a match against Côte D’Ivoire. He was initially selected to Canada’s 2026 World Cup roster, after representing the country in Qatar in 2022, but Adekugbe’s injury ruled out any chance he’d be available to play.
