Elgin man dies of injuries from July 4 fireworks accident

An Elgin man died from injuries he suffered a week earlier involving fireworks on Independence Day.

A young man from Elgin man has died from injuries he suffered in a fireworks accident in Wisconsin. Tommy Wood was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, where he died days later following an incident in Sheboygan County, a spokesperson for the Milwaukee County Office of the Medical Examiner said in an email to Shaw Local. Wood had suffered the injures in Plymouth, Wisconsin, according to officials there.

The Plymouth Fire Department was dispatched at 9:45 p.m. July 4 to the Quit Qui Oc Athletic facility and were requested to set up a landing zone for a medical helicopter, Jason McCoy of the fire department said. A GoFundMe has been created has been set up to assist Wood’s family and had raised over $54,000 as of Friday.
