Tuesday July 14, 2026 | COURTENAY, BC by Mary P Brooke | Island Social Trends Edward G. was enjoying watching the England versus Ghana FIFA World Cup soccer match on June 23 when he paused to scratch a Gold II Scratch & Win that his daughter had given him for Father’s Day. The FIFA match was a scratch result (0-0 final score). But Edward’s ticket did better.

During halftime he decided to scratch what may end up being one of the best Father’s Day gifts he’ll ever receive –- the $20 Gold III Scratch & Win gifted by his daughter. The ticket ended up winning the game’s Top Prize of $250,000. “I noticed the number 46 matched for a prize but assumed there was a mistake and set it aside.

When my daughter looked at it later with the [BCLC] Lotto! App, she confirmed it was a winner!” The Courtenay resident told BC Lottery Corporation that he plans to upgrade his vehicle, purchase some electronics and complete renovations on his home.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart at Comox Shopping Centre on Guthrie Road.
