Five people have been charged with attempted murder in connection with a serious assault that happened in Eskasoni, N.S., earlier this month.

Police responded to a report of an injured man on the roadway near the intersection of Mickeys Lane and Shore Road around 12:30 a.m. on July 4. “Officers learned that the man was walking home after attending a gathering when he became involved in an altercation with individuals known to him.

The altercation escalated, resulting in a serious assault,” reads a news release from RCMP at the time. Police executed search warrants at two residences on Logan Drive last Friday as part of the investigation.

They say they arrested two people and seized evidence from the properties. On Monday, a youth was arrested at the Eskasoni RCMP Detachment. “Later in the morning, officers executed search warrants at two additional residences and seized further evidence.

Two other people, both youths, were arrested at the homes,” reads an RCMP news release from Tuesday . “Evander Alexander Marshall, 20, and Frederick Junior Knockwood, 18, both of Eskasoni, along with three youths, have each been charged with attempted murder,” reads the release. Marshall and Knockwood appeared in Sydney provincial court on Monday.

The three youths are scheduled to appear on Tuesday. Police urge anyone with information to call Eskasoni RCMP at 902-379-2822. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
