The City of Fredericton is developing a long-term plan to replace nine wading pools with splashpads.

The City of Fredericton is developing a long-term plan to replace nine wading pools with splashpads. The pools were installed in the 1970s, and after 50 years the city says they’re approaching the “end of life.” The city engaged an independent engineering consultant to assess the conditions of the pools.

As a result of the report, the Islandview wading pool in Silverwood, N.B., was closed, “due to extensive structural issues.” Download the CTV News App for breaking news alerts and video on all the top stories Six pools are expected to be operational for another five to 10 years as the city transitions to splashpads. Those wading pools are located on: Two wading pools were found to be in good condition and expected to be operational for 10 to 15 years, located on: “Developing a long-term strategy allows the city to thoughtfully transition aging infrastructure into modern splash pads,” says Fredericton Coun.
