Friday July 17, 2026 | COLWOOD, BC by Mary P Brooke | Island Social Trends On Thursday July 16, West Shore RCMP responded at about 3:28 pm to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Veterans Memorial Parkway near the Carirndale Road intersection in Colwood. Truck swerved off the road: Frontline officers determined that a Ford F-150 had swerved off the roadway before striking the shoulder and rolling onto its passenger side. Driver observed for impairment: The driver was a 36-year-old man.

He was extricated from the vehicle and examined by BC Emergency Health Services. There were non-life-threatening injuries. Officers observed signs and symptoms of impairment in the driver.

The driver provided a breath sample into an Approved Roadside Screening Device, which resulted in a WARN reading (i.e. blood alcohol content (BAC) between 0.05% and 0.079%). Fines & prohibitions: The driver was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded. During the investigation, officers also determined the vehicle was not insured.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for operating an uninsured vehicle and received an additional 90-day driving prohibition. Impaired driving is preventable: “Impaired driving continues to put everyone on our roads at risk and is entirely preventable,” said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer for the West Shore RCMP. “This collision serves as a reminder that choosing to drive after consuming alcohol can have serious consequences.

We encourage everyone to plan ahead and arrange a safe ride home if they have been drinking,” says Cpt Saggar. West Shore RCMP reminds motorists that impaired driving remains one of the leading contributing factors in serious injury and fatal collisions in British Columbia. If you suspect a driver is impaired, safely pull over and report it by calling 9-1-1.
