Another heatwave and the World Cup have been popular topics of conversation across the West Country this week. People in the region have been out enjoying themselves in the sunshine and there was a royal visitor at Gloucester Cathedral for the dedication of its new organ, while 2,000 people joined a charity walk to raise money for Salisbury Hospital. Somerset Sack the sock: The use of compression socks is being phased out by the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath NHS Foundation Trust to help reduce waste. According to the RUH, the stockings - which have long been used to help prevent blood clots after surgery - do not provide any additional benefit if patients are already taking blood-thinning medication. Splashing about: This dog was captured enjoying a cool down in Cheddar, Somerset, during this week's heatwave - thanks to one of our BBC Weather Watchers.

Wiltshire Super stars: More than 2,000 people joined the Stars Appeal Walk for Wards at Wilton House in support of Salisbury Hospital. So far, the fundraising walk has raised over £100,000. Daisy Stenner walked in fancy dress as Homer Simpson with her family to say thank you for the "incredible care" she received during chemotherapy treatment at the hospital.

Eagle eyed: People in Wiltshire have been asked to join the Big Butterfly Count and log details of sightings online between 17 July and 9 August. The project comes after a recent poll by Butterfly Conservation, which found that the brimstone was the favourite butterfly for people in the county. Conquered triumphs: Shakespeare's final play, The Two Noble Kinsmen, is the next theatrical experience at The Wharf Theatre in Devizes.

It stars Christopher Smith as Arcite and Oli Beech as Palamon and runs from 14 - 18 July. Gloucestershire Spy-comedy returns: The cast of a new touring production of Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana is in rehearsal before coming to Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre in August. The production stars Jack Ashton (Call the Midwife) as Wormold, alongside Bob Barrett (Holby City), Leon Ockendon (Waterloo Road) and Jodie Steele (Heathers The Musical).

Landmark moment: The Duchess of Gloucester visited Gloucester Cathedral for the dedication of its new organ at a special service last Sunday. Bristol Take pride: The city came together on Saturday to celebrate inclusivity and LGBTQ+ people. Thousands marched in a parade while huge crowds watched on.
