The Memorial Cup champions are losing their head coach. The Kitchener Rangers announced on Friday that Jussi Ahokas was leaving the organization – and the OHL – for the American Hockey League. The team said Ahokas has been named the head coach of the Colorado Eagles.
“Thank you for everything and congratulations, Jussi,” the Rangers said in a social media post. Ahokas became the team’s bench boss in July 2023. Before coming to Canada, he was a head coach with Liiga, Finland’s top pro league.
Ahokas also led his country’s team to a gold medal finish at the 2019 IIHF world junior tournament. He was the 25th coach in Rangers history. The team did not say who might take over as head coach.
