'Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed': Tatiana Maslany and showrunner break down finale, tease Season 2 possibilities

The Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, created by David Rosen, starring Tatiana Maslany, is already a favourite among the best shows of 2026. And this week we got a finale that not only impressed, but has us begging for another season. Paula (Maslany) spent much of the season trying to find out what happened to Trevor (Brandon Flynn), a cam boy she sought out for companionship, who she saw being attacked on a video call.

She has also had to ensure that she retains custody of her daughter, Hazel (Nola Wallace), especially as her ex Karl (Jake Johnson) and his new wife, Mallory (Jessy Hodges), want to move from New York to Boise. And now the Season 1 finale has left us with a lot of questions about what the future of Paula's life could look like. Spoilers for Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, including the finale, are included beyond this point When it comes to Paula's custody hearing, she succeeds, with one of the show's most impactful moments, thanks to the always brilliant Maslany, who delivers a speech that calls out the judgment she's faced for being a woman, a mom, who sought out companionship and pleasure.

"I'm the only mother in this room. The only one," Paula says at the hearing. "You want to know what the reasons for my actions are?

Sure, why not." "When my marriage ended, it destroyed me. I was a wreck, but I had a kid, so I couldn't be a wreck, you know.

I wasn't going to meet some guy at the farmer's market or at a book club. So I went online for some companionship, like, I could schedule that between school pickups and work deadlines. You know, do you think that was optimal?

Do you think that was my life plan? It was f—king survival. You know, Hazel is not just some kid, she grew inside me.

We were one person. We shared blood, we shared oxygen, we were totally connected in every way. So I know, I know what she needs. ...

She needs to continue to grow with me. I know that because Hazel and I are still connected. Nothing you say here can change that."

"I had really felt it growing where ... she knows something is true and she's being told it isn't throughout the whole thing," Maslany told Yahoo Canada about that scene in the episode. "At the moment when she really could seek to lose everything, she's the most brutally honest about who she is and ... bravely calls out this double standard, or this judgment that puts her at a disadvantage.

And it's a relief, even for her to say those words, I think, out loud. Regardless of the outcome, there's something that's lifted." 'Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed' writers wrote beyond Season 1.

Where could Season 2 go? But that's not where the complications in Paula's life end. While Paula's link to the criminal world has been broken, something comes back to haunt her.

At the end of the season finale, while Paula is celebrating the result of the hearing, Detective Sofia Gonzalez (Dolly de Leon) stops by, because she has a feeling there's more to Paula's story and that she knows something about the circumstances that led to her partner, Detective Baxter (Jon Michael Hill), being shot. Paula dismisses her, but then she gets a video from an anonymous number. The video is from when she lived in Portland, which suggests that Paula was fully aware of what she was doing when Caleb died.

As he's in front of her car, yelling at her that he 's "not going away," and he "vouched for" her, and maybe he'll "start talking," Paula drives the car forward and hits him, which we know killed him. Then Paula gets text messages from the anonymous contact that read "We own you. You're gonna do us a favor."

"I just love the secrets that Paula is holding that we still don't even know about," Maslany said about where the story could go for Paula if there's a Season 2. "I just think she makes choices that not everybody could kind of empathize with, and I think that's really compelling." Rosen shared that the writers wrote beyond the Season 1 finale, so they've established where a Season 2 would pick back up.

"I don't think Paula is through her arc. There's a lot more growing for her in good and bad directions," Rosen said. Thinking about Karl and Mallory's connection to that night, Jessy Hodges believes a continuation of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed could see Mallory and Paula working together.

"I have this idea that she and Paula might end up on the same team at some point, and I would love to see Mallory helping Paula and using her skills," Hodges shared. "I love her being morally compromised, and I'd like to see more of that." But Jake Johnson added that if it's a scenario of Paula and Mallory being a team, Karl could be in "a lot of trouble" trying to keep up.

For executive producer and director, David Gordon Green, moving beyond Paula, he really wants to continue exploring Gonzalez's story. "I'm obsessed with Dolly de Leon's character, Gonzalez, and her dishonesty, and ... I want to learn more about her.

I want to see what makes her tick and what's the root of these lies that she tells," Green said. "We wrote her to be inscrutable purposefully," Rosen added. "She says one thing and then if you're paying attention later, she says something else, and you're like, 'Wait, said something else earlier.'"

And then there are Paula's coworkers, Rudy (Charlie Hall) and Geri (Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg). They got wrapped up in Paula's messy investigation, but there was also the prospect of a romantic relationship between them, which has seemingly stalled when Rudy tells Geri in the finale he's back with his ex. But Charlie Hall has something very specific wish for Rudy if there's a Season 2.

"Rudy has this water bottle that he has in a lot of these scenes, and it's a squeeze water bottle, and he spills, and it just feels like it's not the best mode of drinking," Hall said. "So if we were lucky enough to get to do this some more, I'd love for Rudy to buy a new water bottle. ... Just some improvement to the way he gets his daily hydration would be nice."

There's also a question hanging over Geri: will she continue pursuing the story about Paula she pitched to her boss, Suzie (Tara Summers)? "Acting across from Tara Summers, who is an amazing actress, made that whole Suzie, Geri dynamic so easy. She's the nicest woman in the world, but when she gets into Suzie mode, I felt like I was like in Devil Wears Prada.

She's just like not giving you eye contact, could not give you less attention, and I was so all of a sudden intimidated in front of her," Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg said. "Geri is so confident, and is always going to say the sassy dig when she's with her work friends, but then you put her in front of her boss, ... she does shrink a little bit, and it was fun to sort of like play with that side of her."

But wherever the story goes, we just desperately need it to happen, so we're crossing our fingers for the green light for Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 2.
