Canada News Centre 16 Jul 2026, 19:30 GMT+10 July 16, 2026 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will welcome Roberto Velasco Alvarez, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs, to Canada on July 17, 2026. The two ministers will meet in Ottawa to advance shared bilateral priorities under the Canada-Mexico Action Plan, including trade and investment, security and key foreign policy issues.
This will mark Foreign Secretary Velasco's first visit to Canada since he assumed his position in April 2026. The visit follows a successful large-scale Mexican trade mission to Canada in May 2026, led by Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico's Secretary of Economy, that brought together more than 240 Mexican companies in Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, to strengthen commercial ties with Canadian businesses.
