N.L. lifting provincial fire ban as of midnight Outdoor fires will be permitted as of Saturday The fire ban in Newfoundland and Labrador is being lifted as of July 18. Forestry Minister Pleamon Forsey ordered broad restrictions on outdoor fires on July 8, in the midst of significant demand on firefighting services. The ban ends on Saturday at 12:01 a.m.

As of the latest update on the province's online wildfire hazard map, there are still 19 wildfires active in the province, all in Labrador. There will now be normal restrictions, being based on the daily fire weather index for each region. "All outdoor fires, including campfires, are banned in areas where the Fire Weather Index is very high or extreme," noted the provincial government in a notice on the removal of the province-wide ban.

"The provincial government extends its appreciation to all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador for their co-operation in observing the fire ban." Download our free CBC News app to sign up for push alerts for CBC Newfoundland and Labrador. Sign up for our daily headlines newsletter here.
