Many local fans fondly remember the Norwood Vipers, whose success, including an Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League championship in their inaugural 2004–05 season, helped establish Norwood as a passionate hockey community. Today, that tradition continues with a new chapter.

The Norwood Rams are proud to represent Norwood in the Northern Premier Hockey League (NPHL), bringing competitive senior hockey back to the community with a fresh vision rooted in local pride, community involvement, and long-term sustainability. While the Rams honour the legacy of the teams that came before them, this organization is focused on creating an identity of its own, one built on meaningful community connections and a commitment to becoming more than just a hockey team. “Norwood is a small town, but a big-time hockey town,” said Tyler Gubler, General Manager of the Norwood Rams.

“When the Vipers left, the town lost a bit of its hockey identity. We’re looking to bring that identity back with a new team in an exciting new league. Fans can expect fast-paced hockey, hard hits, and plenty of goals.”

Since joining the NPHL, the organization has already made a strong statement by signing an exciting group of talented players, including several with deep local roots and extensive experience at the junior and senior levels. The Rams believe that showcasing 2 local talent not only strengthens the team on the ice but also creates a stronger connection with fans throughout Norwood and the surrounding communities. The organization is equally committed to building relationships away from the arena.

Throughout the season, the Rams will share player stories, behind-the-scenes content, community initiatives, volunteer efforts, and local events that highlight the people who make the organization possible. The Norwood Rams also recognize the important role local media plays in celebrating community success. The organization looks forward to working closely with newspapers, radio stations, television outlets, digital publications, and community organizations to share stories that go beyond game results.

“Our vision extends well beyond the rink,” Gubler continued. “We want the Rams to be an organization that people genuinely connect with. Whether it’s families coming together on game nights, young players looking up to our athletes, or local residents cheering on familiar faces, we want everyone to feel like they’re part of this team.

“We can’t wait to see the support from the town for the team we’ve assembled. It’s going to be a great show, but more importantly, we’re committed to doing things the right way, building something that lasts, getting the community involved every step of the way, and ultimately competing for a championship.” As the inaugural season approaches, excitement continues to grow around the Rams and what they hope to accomplish, not only as competitors in the NPHL, but as an organization that brings people together through the game of hockey.

The Norwood Rams will host a prospect skate on Saturday, July 18 at 4 p.m. at the Miskin Law Community Complex in Peterborough. Prospective players are invited to showcase their skills and meet the Rams’ coaching and management team.
