Student actors bring the history of Steveston alive.
Richmond residents and visitors now have the rare opportunity of learning more about the history of Steveston in an entertaining as well as informative way. The village of Steveston is a survivor. Many of its historic buildings are still intact — after fires, floods and urbanization— with help from the Steveston Historical Society, enlightened citizens and government.
An innovative program called Steveston Alive! Walking Tour Vignettes now runs on select Saturdays until Aug. 15, with helpful guides in period costumes. The engaging guides come from the drama department at Steveston-London Secondary School with strong support from their drama teacher.
The student actors portray individuals from the early days of Steveston — fishers, cannery workers, store clerks, farmers and others — many of them recent immigrants. All of this provides an enjoyable way of learning about the history of Steveston Village. A more detailed description of the Walking Tour and its upcoming dates can be found at Steveston Alive!
