Mounties were called to the scene of a destroyed home after officials found the remains of a man. A crew of firefighters were just starting their day when they got a call for a house fire on East Chezzetcook Road in Halifax Regional Municipality. The initial call was for smoke in the air just after 7:00 a.m., but when the team arrived at the home, it was engulfed in flames.
The blaze had burned through the roof of the single-family home before firefighters arrived. After two and a half hours of dousing the fire, crews got it under control. According to a release by RCMP, a 59-year-old man was found dead inside the home.
The investigation is ongoing in partnership with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency and the provincial medical examiner. “Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time,” police said.
