Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox were just being practical. Danny Coulombe was one game away from a contract bonus, and he wasn't being particularly impactful out of the Boston bullpen. So on Sunday, the Red Sox officially designated Coulombe for assignment, according to MLB's transaction log. Coulombe gets removed from the 40-man roster (and the MLB roster), and he's placed on waivers. Another team can claim him. If he goes unclaimed, he could end up at Triple-A, or as a veteran, he could opt for free agency. Either way, it seems unlikely that Coulombe will pitch for Boston again this season. He had a 4.50 ERA through 29 relief outings, including 37 pitches in his final appearance with the Red Sox.
