Ten Sarnia-Lambton athletes won medals at two Ontario track and field championships on the weekend.

Kallee Elliott, Alex Fortney, Keala Pickard, Sophie Smith, Cylver Worton and Kole Chapman reached the podium at the Ontario Legion U16 and U18 championships in Sudbury. Duncan Smith, Camryn Leitch, Avery Norland and Skarlit Worton medalled at the Ontario U20, senior and para championships in Windsor.

All but Chapman are members of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club. At Sudbury, Elliott won gold in the U16 girls’ high jump (1.55 metres). Fortney won gold in the U18 boys’ 800 metres (1:54.45) and was sixth in the 1,500 metres (4:17.23).

Pickard won silver in the U18 girls’ 3,000 metres (10:37.42), was fourth in the 1,500 metres (4:49.79) and was ninth in the 800 metres (2:28.68). Sophie Smith won silver in the U18 girls’ javelin (42.25 metres). Cylver Worton won bronze in the U16 girls’ 80-metre hurdles (11.89 seconds), was sixth in the 200-metre hurdles (29.76 seconds) and was ninth in the long jump (4.65 metres).

Chapman won bronze in the U18 boys’ 400-metre hurdles (56.60 seconds) and was fourth in the 110-metre hurdles (14.40 seconds). At Windsor, Duncan Smith won silver in the U20 men’s javelin (55.35 metres). Leitch won bronze in the U20 women’s javelin (34.31 metres) and was sixth in the discus (30.80 metres).

Norland won bronze in the U20 women’s 800 metres (2:12.37) and was fourth in the 1,500 metres (4:36.07). Skarlit Worton won bronze in the U20 women’s long jump (5.67 metres). She also was sixth in the 100-metre hurdles (14.50 seconds), seventh in the high jump (1.55 metres) and ninth in the 200 metres (25.26 seconds).

Matteo Shaw, Emma Munroe and Rachel Burns also had top-10 results.
