Say no to mosquitos in the Central Okanagan Published 2:21 pm Monday, July 13, 2026 As the weather warms the mosquitos swarm. The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is offering advice on how to prevent the pest and reduce the risks of mosquito-borne illnesses, such as West Nile virus. Mobile crews will be treating roadside catch basins with water-soluble larvicide pouches to prevent mosquito development.

The district is asking residents to help curb the mosquito population by emptying standing water in pots, buckets, spare tires, garbage cans, gutters, and pool covers. Residents should also ensure rain barrels are sealed with fitted lids, replace water in bird baths and wading pools at least twice weekly, and use aeration in ponds or include fish that feed on mosquito larvae. Learn more about managing mosquitos by visiting rdco.com.
