Sold-out Reid Davidson Memorial Golf Tournament raises more than $9K for MADD Nanaimo Published 4:35 pm Friday, July 17, 2026 A sold-out field of 128 golfers came together at Fairwinds Golf Club in Nanoose Bay on July 12 for the second annual Reid Davidson Memorial Golf Tournament. The event raised more than $9,000 for MADD Nanaimo, honouring the memory of Reid Davidson, a beloved member of the Nanaimo soccer community who was killed by an impaired driver in July 2023. The tournament, now in its second year, continues to grow as a community event dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impacts of impaired driving while supporting MADD Nanaimo’s education and prevention efforts.

Organizers Nick and Aurora Crossen said this year’s event exceeded its fundraising goal thanks to the incredible generosity of sponsors, participants and volunteers. “Our goal has always been to honour Reid’s memory in a meaningful way while helping prevent other families from experiencing the same tragedy,” said the Crossens. “The support from our sponsors, golfers and everyone who contributed made this year’s tournament an incredible success.

Surpassing our fundraising goal shows just how much this community cares.” This year’s tournament champions were Danny Wheaton, Ben Lake, Tom Howard and Max Jeffries. The foursome, representing one of the tournament’s sponsor teams, earned top honours in what organizers described as an exciting finish to the day.

A particularly meaningful part of the event was welcoming both the Davidson family and the Bickell family, who have each experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child to an impaired driver. Their presence served as a poignant reminder of why the tournament was created and the importance of continuing to advocate for safer roads. Organizers also recognized the event’s platinum sponsors, whose generous support helped the tournament surpass its fundraising goal: Toyota Nanaimo, Velocity Trucking, NorthEnd Automotive, BMO Banking and Emmanuel Lint Wealth Management.

“We simply couldn’t achieve what we do without our sponsors,” the Crossens said. “Their commitment, along with the support of our golfers and volunteers, made it possible to raise even more funds for MADD Nanaimo this year.” Plans are already underway for the third annual tournament, which will return to Fairwinds Golf Club in 2027, with Greenview Taphouse once again partnering with the event.

Organizers hope to continue growing the tournament each year while keeping Reid’s memory alive and supporting the ongoing fight against impaired driving.
