Tennessee Titans to induct Chris Johnson into Ring of Honor

The Tennessee Titans will induct franchise legend Chris Johnson into their Ring of Honor on Sept. 13 in Nashville, they announced Friday.

July 17 (UPI) -- The Tennessee Titans will induct franchise legend Chris Johnson into their Ring of Honor on Sept. 13 in Nashville, they announced Friday. "Chris Johnson holds a special place in the hearts of our organization and our fans," Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in statement.

"His stats speak for themselves, and he will forever remain a leader in our record books, but the man behind the yardage deserves just as much celebration. "We look forward to welcoming him home on Sept. 13 and officially inducting him into the Titans Ring of Honor." Johnson, who announced last month that he was diagnosed with ALS, spent six of his 10 NFL seasons with the AFC South franchise.

The 2009 Offensive Player of the Year is the fourth-leading rusher in franchise history, trailing only Eddie George, Derrick Henry and Earl Campbell. His 2,006 rushing yards from 2009 with the Titans are the seventh-most for a single season in NFL history. Johnson will become the 20th inductee in the Titans Ring of Honor.

Former radio analyst and assistant coach Dave McGinnis, who died in April, also will be inducted later in the season. The Titans will host the New York Jets in the Sept. 13 season opener at Nissan Stadium. Johnson's ceremony will be held at halftime.
