The under-15 Westman Magic fell in the semifinal at Softball Manitoba’s provincial championship in Headingley on Sunday. During the round-robin, the Magic beat the Winnipeg Lightning 10-1 and the Interlake Phillies 10-5 on Thursday and Central Energy 9-1 on Friday before being blanked by the favourite, the Eastman Wildcats, on Friday evening. Westman finished the round-robin with a 13-4 win over the Smitty’s Terminators on Saturday, with Hayley Barkley leading the way with three hits, three runs and three RBI.

In the two-vs-one game on Saturday evening, Eastman emerged with a 6-1 win. Westman led 1-0 after three innings but Eastman scored their six runs in the four and fifth frames for the win. Evie McAdam drove in the run, with Barkley, Brooke Hartman and Zaree Routledge each getting two of their team’s seven total hits.

Interlake topping Central 10-0 in the three-vs-four game, setting up a semifinal between Westman and Interlake on Sunday morning, with the winner advancing to the final and booking one of two spots to nationals. The teams were tied 7-7 after the regulation seven innings, and both pushed across a single run in the eight inning. In the ninth inning, Interlake struck for six runs and Westman couldn’t respond in a 14-8 loss.

The teams combined for an incredible 38 hits, with Georgia Koop leading her team with five hits, three RBI and two runs scored. McAdam had three hits and Hartman and Robertson each had two. The loss means the Magic will head to the western Canadian championships in Winkler in Aug. 13 -16.

Eastman won the provincial title with a 7-0 victory over Interlake in the final. U13 MAGIC On Saturday at the Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex, the Magic rolled to 17-1 and 16-4 victories over the visiting Smitty’s Terminators.

In the first game, Jaycee Hackywicz, Taylor Larson, Hayley Fordyce and Brooke Collins all drove in three runs, with Emerson Anderson and Surie Small holding Winnipeg to just four hits while striking out five. In the second game, Hackywicz had four hits and four RBI and Fordyce also drove in four runs. On Sunday at home, the hard-hitting Magic swept the visiting Interlake Phillies, winning a pair of 17-4 decisions.

In the first game, the Magic took a 5-0 lead and pushed across six runs in both the third and fourth innings for a mercy-rule victory. Anderson led the attack with three hits, three runs scored and four RBI, with Fordyce, Maci Watters and Kyree Hart all driving in two runs. In the second game, the Magic continued to star at the plate, hammering out 17 hits and putting across four, four, three and six runs in four innings.

Ella Parrott and Watters both drove in three runs, with Watters going 4-for-4. Anderson earned both wins, with Small turning in scoreless innings of relief in both games. U17 MAGIC

On Saturday at the Neufeld Complex, Westman swept the visiting Manitoba Angels in 4-0 and 12-3 decisions. In the first game, Callie Franklin struck out nine and allowed just three hits in the shutout. Ivy Fry drove in two runs.

The Magic scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the second game, Westman put across five runs in the first inning and seven in the second in the mercy-rule victory. Quinn Twordik, Olivia Wilson and Paige Rampton each drove in two runs, and Anna Yeomans scored three times.
