sports@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat U19 Thunder Red will play for a Western Canadian softball championship. The Thunder captured provincial gold over the weekend at the U19B provincials in Devon, Alta., sweeping the weekend en route beating the Red Deer Rage 4-1 in the final Sunday.

They started the golden run with a 7-2 win Friday over the Foothills Fury. Ryleigh Jackiw and Sydney Thompson each had three hits and two RBIs, Gracie Eddy had three hits in the win. Jackiw started the game on the mound, working four innings with three strikeouts.

Adriene Campbell pitched three innings, striking out five. The Thunder opened play Saturday with a 9-0, shutout win over the SBR Rockies. Peightyn Williams had four RBIs with one hit and Bree Pavely had two hits and two RBIs.

Eddy had two hits with an RBI. In the circle, Campbell threw all five innings with 10 strikeouts. They beat Sherwood Park 9-1 later in the day.

Williams had two hits and two RBIs and all three of Thompson, Pavely and Charli Allinson had a hit and an RBI. Jackiw started the game, working two no-hit innings with two strikeouts. Kyra Strutt struck out three batters in three innings pitched.

On Sunday, the Thunder opened play with a 3-2 win over the West Hill Wild. Eddy had two hits and all three of Pavely, Thompson and Williams had a hit and an RBI. Jackiw pitched five no-hit innings, striking out 10.

Campbell also held West Hill without a hit, striking out four in two innings of work. The Thunder beat the Leduc Jets Elite Black 11-1 in the semifinal to punch their ticket to the final. Thompson had two hits and three RBIs, Allinson had a pair of hits and RBIs and Campbell had two hits with an RBI.

Campbell worked four innings, striking out six batters. Pavely led the way in the finals win over Red Deer with a pair of hits and an RBI. Williams and Mackenzie Tindall each had a hit and an RBI.

Campbell worked all seven innings of the game, striking out 13. The U19 Thunder Red will head to Ladysmith, B.C. Aug. 6-9 for the U19 Western Canadian championship. 12 -11
