Article content The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 175 charges during this year’s Canada Day Week Provincial Traffic Safety Campaign, with speeding and impaired driving among the most common offences. The provincewide campaign ran from June 26 to July 5 and focused on improving safety on roads, waterways and trails. Officers targeted impaired, aggressive and inattentive drivers while also promoting the use of lifesaving safety equipment.

Recommended Videos During the campaign, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers issued 68 speeding charges and five charges for failing to wear a seatbelt. Police also laid 12 alcohol-related Criminal Code charges. In total, officers laid 175 charges over the 10-day enforcement initiative.

Marine officers also patrolled local waterways during the campaign, charging three people with failing to have a personal flotation device (PFD) while on the water. Although the campaign has ended, the OPP said officers will continue to focus on traffic enforcement and public safety throughout the year on roads, trails and waterways.
