‘We share your feelings’: Penticton City Council asks for patience as construction season continues Published 4:52 pm Saturday, July 11, 2026 Penticton City Council has issued a statement acknowledging “concerns amongst the public” over disruption in travel time due to multiple ongoing construction projects. Projects underway include work at the intersections of Green Avenue and Skaha Lake Road, and at Eckhardt Avenue and Government Street. Full road closures are currently in effect at both intersections.

Work across the city includes replacing water mains, upgrading electrical infrastructure and installing new traffic lights. City council’s full statement, issued on Saturday (July 11), reads: As the city goes through a period of infrastructure projects, there are obviously concerns amongst the public about the disruption to travel time in the city. Your City Council understands your frustration, and we share your feelings.

The decisions to upgrade our major utilities is made knowing that we need to keep our water and sewer pipes, and our power lines in good condition. Council approves the projects, but we do not determine when they get done. We ask for the projects to be done in a timely manner and we acknowledge that there is a construction season for infrastructure work.

This is important work for the immediate needs and long-term future of our City, and we ask the public to be patient along with us. Let’s give the contractors a chance to do their work and see what the finished jobs look like. Thank you.
