Who left their campfire burning near Johnson Lake?

The MNR seeks public help in identifying who started a June 26-27 campfire at Johnson Lake that sparked a wildland fire.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for starting a wildland fire at Johnson Lake north of Cartier . Want more Sudbury-area news? Check out its local news page.

The ministry was alerted to a wildland fire on June 27. “Conservation officers were alerted to a wildland fire that had originated from a campfire that had not been fully extinguished east of Highway 144 at Johnson Lake,” the MNR said in a news release. The ministry said its fire ranger crews and local firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it spread out of control.

Conservation officers said it is believed the campfire was lit sometime between the evening of June 26 and the morning of June 27. “The ministry takes this situation very seriously and is looking to identify those responsible,” said officers.
