Blaze is listed as 'out of control' by BC Wildfire Service

Wildfire sparks southeast of Lake Country Published 8:02 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2026 BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is responding to a blaze southeast of Lake Country on Wednesday night, July 15. The Horse Creek wildfire was discovered around 7 p.m. It is currently 0.009 hectares in size and described by BCWS as “out of control.”

There are no area restrictions or road closures due to the blaze at this time. Its cause is under investigation, BCWS said. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the South Okanagan — including Summerland, Penticton and Osoyoos — at 4:40 p.m.

It comes about five hours after Environment and Climate Change Canada hit the area with a heat warning as daytime temperatures reached 35 C. At about the same time as the wildfire near Lake Country another blaze was reported northeast of Keremeos near Taylor Lake and Orofino Mountain.
