Police in Nova Scotia have arrested a youth in the Porters Lake area for allegedly making threats that are believed to be hate-motivated.

The RCMP says investigators learned Friday that a youth had made threats of violence related to an upcoming 2SLGBTQIA+ community event. Officers immediately followed up to collect information about the threats,” reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP. The youth was arrested on Saturday and will face charges related to hate propaganda and making threats. The youth was released on conditions pending an upcoming court appearance.

The conditions include being prohibited from entering the geographical boundaries of the community where the event is to take place and from attending organized public gatherings exceeding a specified number of people. “RCMP HRD has been in contact with event organizers for their awareness and to discuss any safety concerns. As the event falls within the jurisdiction of Halifax Regional Police (HRP), relevant details have also been shared with HRP to support safety planning,” reads the release.
