The Royal Canadian Legion is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

A century of service: Armstrong, Spallumcheen set to celebrate Legions 100th Published 4:00 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Armstrong and Spallumcheen community members will be saluting a century of service this weekend. The Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce is inviting Legion members, veterans, families, and the entire community to take part in a special weekend recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The Royal Canadian Legion was founded following the First World War, bringing together several veterans’ organizations committed to supporting those who had served. It was officially incorporated by a special Act of Parliament on July 17, 1926, making this year’s centenary a meaningful milestone. “For 100 years, the Royal Canadian Legion has supported veterans and their families, preserved the importance of remembrance, and strengthened communities through service, volunteerism and leadership,” said Patti Noonan, executive director Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.

The weekend will begin with a special recognition ceremony at Memorial Park in Armstrong on Friday, July 17, at 4 p.m. “The ceremony will include remarks from invited guests, recognition of the Legion’s century of service and an opportunity for veterans, Legion members, families and community members to celebrate this historic milestone together,” said Noonan. “Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Thank you to PV Blvd Coffee for generously providing the anniversary cake.”

Following the ceremony people are invited to join the Legion for their Burger & Beer event. The first 100 people will get complimentary fries! Then people can head back to Memorial Park where the Barn Boys are headlining music in the park from 7-9 p.m.

The celebration will continue Sunday July 19, with a community pancake breakfast in support of the Armstrong Legion at Oddfellows Hall in Armstrong from 8-11 a.m. “Residents are invited to enjoy a pancake breakfast, visit with friends and neighbours and help support an organization that has served veterans and the community for generations,” said Noonan Breakfast is by donation, with all proceeds going directly to the Armstrong Legion. “A very special thank you to Askew’s Foods Armstrong for generously providing the breakfast items and helping make the fundraiser possible.

Thank you as well to Hargreaves Tea & Coffee Merchants for providing tea and Barn to Bean Coffee for providing coffee,” said Noonan. “Everyone is welcome to attend one or both events as Armstrong and Spallumcheen come together to recognize a century of service, remembrance, and community leadership.”
