PHOTOS: Cyclists in Chilliwack ride in rain to raise funds for multiple sclerosis Published 4:08 pm Saturday, July 11, 2026 Cyclists rolled out into rainy and cool weather while taking part in a fundraiser for multiple sclerosis in Chilliwack on Saturday morning. The two-day MS Bike – Chilliwack event left Chilliwack Heritage Park on July 11.
About 80 riders gathered for the fundraiser which was held for a second time in Chilliwack. It’s one of 11 rides across Canada. Participants ride at their own pace along one of three different routes on the first day – 30 km, 60 km, and 100 km – and everyone rides the same 37-kilometre route on Sunday, July 12.
At the start of the event, cyclists had raised nearly $115,000 of their $130,000 goal, with proceeds supporting MS Canada. Multiple sclerosis is a neurological disease of the central nervous system which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In MS, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibres called myelin, which is needed to send messages to and from the brain.
Symptoms include fatigue, balance issues, weakness, tingling/numbness, vision problems, and more. In Canada, approximately 12 people are diagnosed with it every day and more than 90,000 people live with the disease. Funds raised from MS Bike – Chilliwack go toward programs from MS Canada, including peer support groups, the MS Knowledge Network, as well as critical research into the causes and treatments for the disease.
