Google will fix an Android lock screen vulnerability that lets Gemini send SMS messages without a PIN. This is a major privacy concern. Anyone with physical access to the phone can take advantage of it to send messages as you.

Well, the good news is that the company’s spokesperson has confirmed that a fix is on the way. Google is fixing an Android lock screen vulnerability that lets Gemini send SMS without a PIN The Register reports that since May they have received multiple reports from users bypassing device authentication on Android 16 devices that enable Gemini access from the lock screen. These reports appear to be different from the similar Gemini Android lock screen bypass bugs from September 2025.

The outlet citing one reported bug says that it allowed anyone with physical access to the Android device to use Gemini on the lock screen to make phone calls, send texts, and access WhatsApp using a specific multi-touch gesture. Furthermore, if the device owner revokes Gemini’s access to certain apps like Messages and someone tries to send an SMS via Gemini on the lock screen, the chatbot will prompt the user to open the relevant app. Selecting “Continue” will ask the user to enter the correct PIN to access the app.

However, if they press “Continue” simultaneously with Gemini’s “Add attachment” button, the device will apparently allow unauthenticated users to send SMS via Gemini without a PIN. Not a Pixel-specific issue From there, users can then enable Gemini’s access to other apps they previously disconnected from Gemini in Settings. For instance, entering “@WhatsApp” in the Gemini text field reconnects WhatsApp to Gemini without requiring a PIN.

Users can verify this by unlocking the device and checking Settings. WhatsApp will appear as connected to Gemini even though the expected authentication step was never completed. The Register notes that a Google spokesperson confirmed that this is a known bug.

Google has already implemented a fix that it plans to make available this week. While this is not Pixel-specific, it’s not clear which manufacturers or models are vulnerable.
