Unlike Google, who has no qualms creating and releasing apps for both iOS and Android, Apple is a little more conservative. The company typically focuses on its iOS platform, but it does occasionally release apps for Android. This includes Apple TV and Apple Music.

Now, a report from 9to5Google has revealed some updates to both apps, where Apple TV for Android gets support for widgets, while Apple Music now has a WhatsApp sharing feature. Tapping any of them jumps straight into playback. This means there’s no need to open the app first and hunt for where you left off. That being said, it should be noted that none of the three widgets are resizable.

They also match what’s already available on iOS. It’s also not surprising that it took Apple this long to bring widgets to Android. Apple hasn’t been shy when it comes to treating its Android apps like an afterthought.

The company only brought a native Apple TV app to Android phones and tablets last year. Widgets are a natural next step now that the app’s had time to sit in the Play Store. Apple Music adds WhatsApp sharing and two new widgets Now, in addition to Apple TV for Android, Apple Music picked up its own update today too.

This brings it up to version 6.5 from 5.2. That’s a bigger leap than usual. However, it is possible that Apple is just lining up its Android version numbers with iOS, since 26.5 is the current release on iPhone.

Both join existing widgets like Now Playing and Recently Played. Apple Music can now also share songs, albums, playlists, and lyrics directly to WhatsApp. It’s a small addition, but it makes sending a track to a friend a lot easier.
