A Beecher woman was arrested Friday after attempting to enter the Kankakee County Courthouse with a loaded handgun in her purse. The woman, 40-year-old Rachel Kane-Coffman, was arrested without incident, according to a news release from the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office. During routine security screening, officers found a loaded handgun in her purse with a full magazine and a round chambered, plus two additional loaded magazines, police said.
Kane-Coffman holds a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License, police said. She was charged with carrying a concealed firearm in a court building and carrying/possessing a firearm in public. Kane-Coffman could not be reached for comment.
