BIGGAR, JAMES SANFORD MAY 17, 1956 - JULY 10, 2026 For 20 years, Jim proudly served his country in the Air Force before retiring as a Master Corporal. He then began a second career as a heavy equipment operator and, after another 25 years, retired to enjoy life on the farm with his beloved wife, Karen, surrounded by their horses and dogs.

Jim and Karen met in 2011 and were married in 2019. They were a familiar sight at horse shows, always arriving with their horses in tow. After Jim lost his beloved horse, Sonny, he became Karen’s biggest supporter at every event and welcomed the other riders into his extended horse-show family.

He became a father figure and supporter of all the riders. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Della May Biggar; his sister, Vicky Biggar; and his brother-in-law, Neil Foster. Jim passed away peacefully at the home they built, leaving behind his beloved wife, Karen Laplante; his children, Tim McDonald, Stacy Smith, Zack Biggar (Brigitte Labelle), and Melissa Biggar; and his three bonus sons, Kal Toll (Vanessa), Travis Laplante (Sadie), and Troy Laplante.

He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, April Heaslip and Pam Biggar, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and countless friends. Jim was a very proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren: Cameron Girouard MacDonald, Dylan (Megan) Smith, Daryan (Teaghan) Smith, Dakota Smith, Danika Smith, Dalany Smith, Alex Savoie, Danica Savoie (Blake), Hanna Lamothe, Lyra Toll, Romeo Ratt-Decoursay, Mateo Ratt-Decoursay, Elena Toll, Alice Laplante, and Carter Tyndale. Each of them will miss him dearly.

He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Addison Smith, Olivia Smith, Juliette Smith, Rowan Smith, and one precious little one on the way. They will grow up hearing stories of the wonderful, kind, and generous man he was, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Jim was an avid hunter with many friends in that community, who will miss him dearly.

He will also be missed by his military family. “When we make the last ride that is inevitable for all of us to make, to that great place up there, where the grass is green and lush and stirrup high, that you’ll tell us as we ride in that our entry fees have been paid.” Arrangements entrusted to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
