Brampton man murdered, his body dumped in Stoney Creek, police say

Police said 29-year-old Taranpreet Singh Sidhu was found Wednesday morning in a culvert near the north end of Fruitland Road, near Harbour Drive.

Det. Sgt. Robert Dillani told reporters during a news conference later that day that a civilian found Sidhu on some rocks, partially submerged in shallow water.

Sidhu was shortly pronounced dead on the scene. According to police, the 29-year-old immigrated to Canada from India in 2022. He lived in Brampton and Halifax and worked as a truck driver.

Initially, police said Sidhu’s death was being treated as suspicious. On Thursday, following an autopsy, investigators confirmed that Sidhu was murdered. The cause of his death is not being released as the investigation is ongoing, police said.

They reiterated that homicide investigators “are confident Mr. Sidhu was not killed in the area where he was found.” “Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death,” police said. Investigators said they have canvassed the areas for video evidence and talked to witnesses to establish a timeline.

“While detectives continue to pursue all investigative avenues, they are not prepared to release information regarding the vehicle believed to have been used to transport Mr. Sidhu,” police said. They are asking anyone who had contact with the victim or knew his movements leading up to his death to contact homicide investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
