Twenty-five people became Canadian citizens last week in a ceremony held at the FIFA Fan Festival in Vancouver. Photos from the ceremony show a group of Canada’s newest citizens gathered on a stage at the Pacific National Exhibition Amphitheatre at Hastings Park, a place that has housed celebrations since early June for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The July 9 ceremony was presided over by Citizenship Judge Carol-Ann Hart and attended by family members, community representatives and members of the public.

A spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada told CTV News that it worked alongside Vancouver’s World Cup host committee to celebrate citizenship and organize the event. “The ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize Canada’s newest citizens in a setting that reflected Canada’s diversity and inclusiveness, while showcasing the significance of Canadian citizenship to a broad audience,” IRCC said, in a statement. “IRCC would like to thank the host committee and its team for their partnership and support in helping make the ceremony a success.”

“It was truly a privilege to celebrate this milestone together,” reads a post from FIFA World Cup 26 Vancouver, on X. The spokesperson added that IRCC works with different organizations and communities to hold citizenship ceremonies in places that are meaningful to participants and the public. Just this month, the IRCC worked with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders to host another citizenship ceremony at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
