City looking for election officials

Prince George needs around 150 workers to handle local elections on Saturday, Oct. 17

With about three months left before BC residents vote in province-wide local elections, the City of Prince George put out a call for workers on Wednesday, July 15. In a media release, the city said it is looking for around 150 employees to work on general voting day. Available positions include presiding election officials, who are in charge of making sure a specific voting place follows voting rules laid out under provincial law, alternate presiding election officials, who helps the presiding officials and takes charge if they’re unavailable and election officials, who handle various duties like voter registration and overseeing voting machines.

Presiding officials are paid a day rate of $550, alternate presiding officials $500 and election officials $320. On voting day, which is Saturday, Oct. 17, officials must be available to work from around 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voting locations are open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both advance and general voting days.
