Commercial vehicle enforcement blitz nets 33 charges in Orillia: OPP

Three motorists are facing impaired driving charges after separate incidents in Orillia earlier this week, all while a commercial motor vehicle blitz left dozens of others with offences. On Monday, Orillia OPP officers responded to three alleged impaired driving incidents overnight, including two motor vehicle crashes. As a result, a 71-year-old from Orillia, a 30-year-old from Barrie and a 50-year-old from Orillia were each charged with impaired-related offences.

Police say the accused received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and had their vehicle impounded for seven days. Commercial vehicle blitz A day later, officers joined members of the OPP Central Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team and Ministry of Transportation inspectors for a commercial motor vehicle inspection in the Orillia area. During the blitz, police inspected 29 commercial motor vehicles, completed 11 Level 1 inspections, took two vehicles out of service and laid 33 Provincial Offences Act charges.

Police say the enforcement is aimed at improving road safety and removing preventable hazards from roads.
