Community backpack drive aims to help local students prepare for new school year

YORKTON - A community-wide effort is underway to ensure local students have the supplies they need for the upcoming school year.

YORKTON - A community-wide effort is underway to ensure local students have the supplies they need for the upcoming school year. The Heretics Motorcycle Club (HMC) Back to School Backpack Drive is now accepting donations of school supplies to help provide essential resources for students and families in the community. Organizers are encouraging residents and businesses to contribute items such as notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, backpacks and other classroom essentials ahead of the Aug. 24 donation deadline.

Every donation will help provide school supplies and resources to local students and families as they prepare to return to the classroom this fall. Donations can be dropped off at three locations in the community: - The Flats Eatery & Drink, 275 Broadway St. E. - Tantalize Tanning Studio, 77 Broadway St. W. - Tapps Sports Lounge & Grill, 69 Broadway St. W. Organizer Richie Allen says the backpack drive is designed to ease some of the financial pressure families face during the back-to-school season while ensuring students begin the academic year equipped for success.

The donation campaign will continue through Aug. 24, with all supplies collected to be distributed to students and families in need before the start of the new school year.
