Councillor Jamie Lowery officially files nomination papers for mayoral bid

First-term councillor says 'it's on' after making candidacy official ahead of October's municipal election

North Bay Councillor Jamie Lowery has officially entered the race for mayor after filing his nomination papers at City Hall Tuesday morning. Lowery, a first-term councillor elected in 2022, previously announced in February that he intended to seek the city's top job in the Oct. 26 municipal election. Speaking to BayToday after submitting his paperwork and paying the required $200 filing fee, Lowery said making it official was an exciting moment.

"It's on," he said. Asked about his first thoughts after filing, Lowery said, "Time for some change." The councillor said his campaign will focus on a new direction for the city.

"We can't continue the way we're doing it," he said. "It's time for a shift and a restart." When he announced his candidacy earlier this year, Lowery said affordability would be his top priority if elected mayor, along with modernizing City Hall and improving customer service.

Lowery was elected to council in 2022 after campaigning on improving transparency and access to City Hall. Municipal election day is scheduled for Oct. 26.
